After two visits of experts from South America to Europe (2022 and 2023), a previous visit of experts to South America (2023) and several online meetings, the President and Executive Secretary of the ICPR have visited the Uruguay River in July 2024. The visit covered the area of the Uruguay river that forms the natural border between Uruguay and Argentina that is administered by both countries, and that reflects the beneficial effects of transboundary water resources management within river basin cooperation.

Background: Since 2022, there has been an exchange between authorities from the Uruguay River and the Rhine. Argentina and Uruguay work together in the Administrative Commission of the Uruguay River (CARU). The Committee for the Development of the Uruguay River Basin (CCRU) also involves Brazil. Alongside the ICPR, the Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine (CCNR) has participated in the exchange in recent years. Support came from the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR).
Visita al río Uruguay
Tras dos visitas de expertos de América del Sur a Europa (2022 y 2023), una visita anterior de expertos a América del Sur (2023) y varias reuniones en línea, la Presidenta y el Director Ejecutivo de la Comisión Internacional para la Protección del río Rin (CIPR) visitaron el río Uruguay en julio de 2024. La visita les llevó a la zona del río Uruguay, que constituye la frontera natural entre Uruguay y Argentina y que es gestionada por ambos países. Ello ilustra el impacto positivo de la gestión de los recursos hídricos transfronterizos en el contexto de la cooperación entre cuencas hidrográficas.

Información general: Desde 2022 existe un intercambio entre las autoridades del río Uruguay y del Rin. Argentina y Uruguay trabajan juntos en la Comisión Administradora del Río Uruguay (CARU). Brasil también participa en el Comité para el Desarrollo de la Cuenca del Río Uruguay (CCRU). Además de la CIPR, la Comisión Central para la Navegación del Rin (CCNR) también ha participado en el intercambio en los últimos años. Se contó con el apoyo de la Asociación de Regiones Fronterizas Europeas (ARFE).
