Koblenz, March 22, 2009
On the occasion of the United Nations’ World Water Day (22 March 09) the International Commission for the Protection of the Rhine (ICPR) launches its new and revised internet site. www.iksr.org presents a survey of the multiple international co-operation for the protection of the Rhine and gives access to relevant documents.
The motto of this year’s United Nations’ World Water Day is “Transboundary waters“. The ICPR has actively been working for water protection across the frontiers for almost 60 years. It has thus achieved great importance and sets an example.
For the benefit of the Rhine and of all of its tributaries, the members of the International Commission for the Protection of the Rhine (ICPR) - Switzerland, France, Germany, Luxemburg, Netherlands and the European Commission - successfully co-operate with Austria, Liechtenstein, the Belgian region of Wallonia and Italy. The sustainable development of the Rhine ecosystem is one of the focal points of work.
